About me
Dr Sunil Patel is triple accredited in respiratory, general and intensive care medicine and dedicated to providing personalised and comprehensive care for all your respiratory health needs. Dr Patel holds bachelor's degrees in chemistry, biomedical sciences, medicine and surgery from the University of Nottingham. He is a member of the Royal College of Physicians, UK (MRCP) and a Fellow of the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine (FFICM). Dr Patel has extensive training from prestigious London teaching hospitals and academic centres and brings a wealth of experience to his practice.
Specialised care
Dr Patel specialises in a wide range of respiratory conditions but has particular interest in interstitial lung disease, including pulmonary fibrosis and respiratory failure. He frequently sees and manages patients with symptoms of cough, shortness of breath and difficulty breathing. At Hammersmith Hospital, Dr Patel runs specialist interstitial lung disease clinics and participates in multi-disciplinary team meetings to manage complex respiratory conditions.
Comprehensive services
Dr Patel offers a wide range of services, including the management of acute lung infections (such as pneumonia, as well as chronic conditions such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Dr Patel is skilled in diagnostic bronchoscopy, chest ultrasound and related interventions. As an accredited consultant in intensive care medicine, he oversees the care of patients before and after major surgeries and those who are critically ill.
Research and teaching
Dr Patel obtained his PhD from Imperial College London and holds an honorary clinical senior lecturer post in the department of anaesthesia, pain medicine and intensive care. His research focuses on critical illness-associated muscle wasting and advanced imaging techniques. Dr Patel has contributed to high-impact journals and published book chapters in respiratory and critical care medicine. He is the unit training lead and faculty tutor for intensive care medicine at Hammersmith Hospital.
