About me

I am Mr Muhammad Umar, a Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon based in Manchester and Cheshire, dedicated to helping patients reduce pain, restore movement, and return to an active and fulfilling life.

I specialise in the treatment of hip and knee conditions, offering the full spectrum of care from joint preservation and non-replacement options through to partial and total joint replacement surgery. Where appropriate, I focus on preserving the patient's natural joint using evidence-based treatments, always aiming to delay or avoid joint replacement where possible.

I also provide comprehensive care for sports-related injuries, managing a wide range of musculoskeletal problems affecting both recreational and competitive athletes. My goal is to support a safe, structured recovery and help patients return confidently to work, sport, and everyday activities.

Alongside elective practice, I have extensive experience in the management of complex trauma cases. This requires careful assessment, sound clinical judgement, and a calm, patient-centred approach, particularly when injuries are severe or multifaceted.

I also maintain a particular interest in children's orthopaedics and in the care of patients with metastatic bone disease, allowing me to support patients across a broad spectrum of orthopaedic conditions with sensitivity and expertise.

My training has been comprehensive and rigorous, and I remain actively engaged in continuing professional development to ensure my practice reflects the latest advances in orthopaedic care. I am an active member of several professional organisations and adhere to the highest professional and ethical standards.

I place great importance on clear communication, empathy, and shared decision-making. I take time to listen carefully, explain treatment options clearly, and involve patients fully in decisions about their care.
