About me
Dr Kayur Patel studied medicine at Imperial College London whilst also being awarded honours in his BSc. Kayur completed his anaesthetics training in Surrey and London, but now works as a Consultant Anaesthetist at Royal Surrey NHS FT. He has undertaken specialist training at Guy’s & St. Thomas’, Kings College Hospital and Queen Victoria Hospital.
During his training, he was appointed to the prestigious Sir Bruce Keogh National Medical Director’s Clinical Fellow Scheme. Here he worked at the Royal College of Physicians and the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management. He also won national prizes for quality improvement projects, leadership and education during his training. Kayur has a keen interest in quality improvement and how good medical leadership can facilitate this.
Patient experience is important to him, and he strives to provide patient-centred care. This is evidenced by the letters of thanks from
patients he has received. Apart from his clinical role, Kayur enjoys improving quality, safety, waste, and experience. Currently he is working collaboratively to deliver on improving patient experience during the perioperative journey. This is supported by his MSc in anaesthesia and perioperative medicine. He has completed the ‘Professor Porters Values Based Healthcare’ intensive seminar at Harvard University to learn more about the patient and economic benefits of concentrating on patient-centred outcomes.
Kayur teaches other health professionals in several ways. But is also an instructor on national resuscitation courses (adult, paediatric & neonatal) and supports surgical trainees through teaching on Care of the Critically Ill Surgical patients.
Kayur utilises his breadth of quality improvement and investigation as a specialist advisor at the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Whilst Kayur has a busy clinical practice, outside of work he has two young children who keeps him busy. He is an avid Arsenal fan and keeps fit by playing football, running and cycling on his ‘bike to nowhere’.
