About me
Consultant Orthopaedic surgeon specialising in hips and knees.
Mr Tavares has been a local consultant in Reading since 2000 with over 1400 Hip replacements; Birmingham Hip re-surfacing; treatment of trochanteric bursitis; revision Hip replacements; Total knee replacements; Oxford uni-compartmental knee replacement; Cruciate ligament knee surgery; meniscal repair; arthroscopic knee surgery; sports injuries.
Mr Tavares undertook his basic medical training in the West Indies. His post-graduate training was done on the Oxford Trauma and Orthopaedic training rotation (Stoke Mandeville Hospital, John Radcliffe Hospital, Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre and Royal Berkshire Hospital) from 1993 to 2000.
His fellowship training in knee surgery was carried out at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital and Imperial College London in 1998.
Mr Tavares was appointed Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading in October 2000. He went on to become Clinical Director in the Orthopaedic Department from 2004-2007, and Clinical Governance lead from 2008-2011. He was the Enhanced Recovery Lead for hip and knee replacement surgery from 2010- 2022.
