About me
Dr Frank Phillips is an experienced and dedicated Consultant Gastroenterologist working at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, The Park Hospital and Spire Hospitals in Nottingham. He investigates and treats patients
with the full range of conditions related to the gastrointestinal tract.
Dr Phillips' comprehensive training enables him to provide his patients with the highest quality care. He holds degrees in Biochemistry (University of Bristol) and Medicine (St George's, University of London), achieving a Distinction in Medical Sciences. He completed his specialty
exit examination in his first year of specialist training. Uniquely, he has gone on to achieve triple fellowship training in advanced clinical nutrition, inflammatory bowel disease, and advanced endoscopy at the renowned centres of
Addenbrooke's Hospital Cambridge and St Mark's Hospital London, and has additionally trained with the gastrointestinal cancer team at The Royal Marsden Hospital London.
With his subspecialty expertise in both advanced clinical nutrition and inflammatory bowel disease, Dr Phillips receives tertiary centre referrals from hospitals throughout the East Midlands region for complex IBD, complex feeding tube complications and intestinal failure. He performs around 600 diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopies a year, prioritising safety, comfort and quality. He routinely uses water-assisted insertion techniques for greater patient comfort during colonoscopy and has never had a serious complication.
Dr Phillips continues to be actively involved in research, having delivered important evidence on the risks and safety of endoscopy in the
COVID era. He is well published and has presented his research findings internationally, earning recognition with a British Society of Gastroenterology Research Prize. He continues to be dedicated to medical training at all levels,
and continues to organise and sponsor medical electives for students affected by war and conflict.
