About me
I qualified in Medicine at University College Hospital, London, in 1989. My early years as a junior doctor were spent in SE England and New Zealand, before returning to the UK to train in Gastroenterology from 1994. This included a period of research under Professor Sir Richard Thompson at Guys & St Thomas' Hospitals which focused on environmental factors in inflammatory bowel disease. For over 14 years I was a Consultant in General Medicine and Gastroenterology at Ashford & St Peter's Hospitals NHS Trust, at Chertsey in Surrey. I was the Specialty Lead for Gastroenterology for 5 years, as well as the Clinical and Training Lead for Endoscopy. I left my contracted NHS post in December 2017, but I maintain strong links with the Hospital for multi-disciplinary team meetings and for ad hoc sessional activities.
During 2026, I shall be slowly winding down my clinical practice but I still run a fortnightly clinic at the Runnymede Hospital and endoscopy sessions. I no longer have a secretary, so all telephone calls go to voicemail. Please e-mail pa@surreymed.com with any enquiries.
