About me

I am Consultant General Surgeon at Hull Teaching University Hospitals NHS Trust.
I have been with the Trust since 2008. Prior to that I was Consultant General and Vascular Surgeon at Pilgrim Hospital from 1998.

I graduated in 1982, and completed fellowship of Royal College Surgeon of England in 1998. Following that I completed Masters in vascular technology.

Following graduation Mr Khan’s gained experience across a wide variety of specialities including cardiac surgery, breast surgery, paediatric surgery, urology, vascular, laparoscopic surgery and Gestrointestinal surgery

Mr Khan became Fellow of The Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1989. He later completed post fellowship vascular technology training enabling him to perform his own vascular scans and provide a comprehensive vascular service. Mr Khan was appointed a Consultant General & Vascular Surgeon in 1998.

His managerial responsibilities included I the past Lead Clinician and subsequently Clinical Director for Surgery at the Pilgrim hospital, and subsequently Lead for Acute General Surgery at Hull Teaching University Hospitals NHS Trust.

Since his appointment to Hull and East Yorkshire NHS Trust he is also an Honorary Clinical Tutor to Hull & York Medical School.
I have over 30 years of clinical experience, including 17 years as a senior consultant. He keeps detailed records, maintaining a portfolio listing the procedures he performs on a weekly basis, which he contributes for national/hospital data evaluation.

My practice at Present involves providing routine and elective surgery, and emergency surgery. I am one of eight consultants within the department. We have 2 clinical fellows, 4 registrars, 6 core trainees. My timetable includes three outpatient sessions, three operating sessions and one endoscopy session. In addition to that week long emergency cover.

My Practice compromises of benign upper GI surgery, herniae (hiatus, incisional, other involving abdominal wall). I enjoy laparoscopic surgery, majority of procedure are performed with this technique. My vascular surgery mainly relates to venous diseases. I have busy diagnostic endoscopy service.

I am Honorary Lecturer for Hull & York Medical School. I am involved designing the curriculum for the school. I am involved in teaching final year students. I am responsible for their training, completion of documentation, OSLER exam, and am examiner for final year exam. I am also nominated Educational and Clinical Supervisor for foundation school, core surgical trainees and specialist registrars.
