About me
I am a Consultant General and laparoscopic surgeon specialising in Hernia surgery, Gall bladder surgery, Proctology - Pilonidal disease (including EPSIT), Haemorrhoids (Piles), Fistula (including VAAFT), Fissure, Pelvic Floor Disorders, Gastroscopy and Colonoscopies.
I joined the Colchester General Hospital in 2015 as a Consultant Surgeon and perform both Laparoscopic (keyhole) and open surgeries as well as Gastroscopy and Colonoscopy. I also offer surgical services at Oaks Hospital, Colchester for privately insured, self-pay and NHS patients.
I have a special interest in General Surgery, Day case Surgery and Pelvic floor disorders and offer minimally invasive operations for pilonidal sinuses (EPSIT), fistula (VAAFT) and laparoscopic bile duct exploration for stones in the bile ducts.
I am in the specialist registry of the General Medical Council (GMC). After qualifying (MBBS) in 2000 from the University of Colombo, I received a Master of Surgery degree (MS) in 2005, receiving Gold medals for best performance at both entry and exit exams. I was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2012 (FRCS Gen Surg). Having undergone higher surgical training in Sri Lanka, Australia and in the UK, I have a diploma in advanced laparoscopic surgery from the University of Strasbourg, France. I have also undergone advanced laparoscopy training at the Colchester General Hospital.
I am JAG accredited for both gastroscopy and colonoscopy. I have a keen interest in surgical teaching and currently works as the undergraduate surgical tutor at the Colchester General Hospital and as a tutor at the ICENI centre of the Colchester General Hospital. My research interests include emergency and general surgery.
I am a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, Member of the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland, Member of the Association of Colo-proctologists (of Great Britain and Ireland, Member of The Pelvic Floor Society, Member of the British Medical Society and Member of the Medical Defence Union.
