About me

My name is Gemma and I am a Clinical Psychologist and Cognitive Behavioural Therapist, registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). During my 14 years working in the NHS, I have worked in a variety of clinical settings and with people from a range of backgrounds. I specialise in working therapeutically with individuals experiencing psychological difficulties related to depression and anxiety, including generalised anxiety, worry, stress, social anxiety, health anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), panic attacks, low self-esteem, phobias and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Within my current NHS role I work with people experiencing severe and enduring mental health difficulties, supporting them to make positive, meaningful and long lasting changes in their lives.

During my doctoral training I learnt to use a variety of therapeutic approaches and models; however, I work primarily using a cognitive behavioural model. I also have an interest in ‘third wave’ approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and adapt my therapeutic approach to suit the individual needs of the person I am working with.

I offer a warm, compassionate, non-judgemental, and safe space where you can explore and reflect on any difficulties you are experiencing. Through making sense of these difficulties together, we will work collaboratively to help you make meaningful changes in your life.

I understand choosing a Psychologist can be a daunting task and it is important that you feel you and your Psychologist are the ‘right fit’. I therefore offer a free 10-15 minute introductory telephone call where I can let you know a little about how I work and hear a brief overview of your current difficulties. We can then decide together about the best course of action for you. I look forward to hearing from you.
