About me

Prof Matt Lechner is a distinguished consultant rhinologist and ENT surgeon, specializing in a spectrum of nasal and sinus issues such as nasal blockage, rhinitis, sinusitis, smell loss, snoring, sleep apnea, and rhinoplasty surgery. Presently, he practices at HCA UK at the Shard and Canary Wharf. His comprehensive training in Ear, Nose & Throat surgery unfolded across prominent medical institutions in London, including University College London Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trust encompassing St Bartholomew's and the Royal London Hospital, Great Ormond Street Hospital, and The Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital.

Supplementing his general ENT training, he pursued a surgical Fellowship in Rhinology and Advanced Endoscopic Skull Base Surgery at Stanford University (Palo Alto, US). This endeavour equipped him with an extensive skill set in advanced endoscopic sinus surgery and nasal procedures. Beyond his surgical commitments, he actively participates in various clinical working groups, notably the Clinical Olfactory Working Group that focuses on olfactory (smell) disorders, including those associated with Covid-19.

He was promoted from Associate Professor to Full Professor at University College London in 2024. At UCL, he leads a research program focused on rhinology, smell loss, early cancer drug development strategies, and precision medicine. His contribution to the medical field is evidenced by a wealth of publications, exceeding 130 original articles spanning rhinology, smell disorders, and tumour biology in diverse journals. He was awarded a prestigious Hunterian Professorship by the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2020.

His ardour for education is reflected in his international lectures, participation in courses, and involvement in teaching initiatives both in the UK and overseas. He was awarded the title 'Fellow of UK Higher Education Academy (FHEA)' in 2013. Prof Lechner resides in London and nurtures interests in sports, philosophy, and the arts.
