About me
I am a Consultant Urologist with a specialist interest in oncology, particularly renal and prostate cancer. I have a broad scope of Private Practise including management of benign enlarged prostate, urinary infections, blood in the urine, circumcision, scrotal conditions, pelvic pain.
Having trained and qualified in South Africa, I came to the UK in 1997 and underwent further training at The Middlesex, Charing Cross, Whipps Cross and Addenbrookes hospitals. I commenced a full time consultant post at St George's Hospital in 1999. During the next few years I focused my attention on minimally invasive surgery. As a result I did fellowships at the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio and Jackson University Hospital in Miami to develop the skills for Laparoscopic Renal Cancer Surgery. I have subsequently established a tertiary referral practise for minimally invasive (keyhole) renal cancer surgery. I was the first person to introduce laparoscopic renal cryotherapy to the UK in 2004. I have been an early adopter of Robotic surgery for renal cancer, particularly for partial nephrectomy.
Minimally invasive surgical options for the treatment of prostate cancer have also gained in popularity in recent years and to this end I did a fellowship in Leipzig where I learnt laparoscopic radical prostatectomy. Furthermore I did a fellowship in the Henry Ford hospital, Detroit where I learnt Robotic radical prostatectomy. I was part of a team of surgeons who introduced robotic surgery to the UK in 2005 and routinely perform robotic surgery for Prostate Cancer.
I have played an active role in Clinical research and have been Faculty Member and Guest Speaker at numerous National conferences. In recent years I have had a large number of abstracts accepted for presentation at the British Association of Urological Surgeons annual meeting. I have completed tenures as Lead Urology Cancer Clinician as well as Director of Cancer services St Georges Hospital.
