About me

Dr Ros Vesey is an experienced and insightful Counsellor and Counselling Psychologist, providing psychological therapy for adults. Her in-person practice is based in Southbourne which draws clients from areas such as Christchurch, Bournemouth, Highcliffe, Burton and New Milton.

What to expect:
You are welcome to a free 15-minute consultation by phone or zoom to check that Ros is the right person for you. If you decide to go ahead, a regular 50-minute weekly slot is reserved for you. It is recommended you start with a set of 6-8 weekly sessions and at the end of this a review will determine whether you need to continue.

The therapy:
Ros offers you an emphatic space where you are listened to deeply. You will have the opportunity to explore, reflect, express and understand yourself alongside her professional support. She will provide you with the compassion, skills and knowledge you may need to relieve stress and uncomfortable feelings and resolve psychological issues and traumas. She can help you to understand how the past maybe affecting you now and how your brain and emotions are connected. This process allows you to gain insight about yourself, increase self-acceptance, feel more in control of your responses to life, learn new ways of coping and move forward in your life with greater peace and fulfilment.

Approach:
Ros’s approach is called integrative and pluralistic which means that she draws on different evidence-based psychological theories and encourages a therapeutic relationship based on authenticity, warmth and collaboration. Typically, Ros may draw from cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, mindfulness-based interventions, compassion-focussed therapy (CFT), and person-centred therapy. For trauma-focussed work she often uses eye movement desensitisation therapy (EMDR).

The advantage of this integrative focus is that she can offer you a bespoke therapy program according to your unique needs and provide a space which feels welcoming and safe. Regular progress reviews are set to check that your goals are being reached and that we are going at a pace which suits you. All of this is made possible by Ros’s wealth of life and work experience, insight and high standard of psychological knowledge and expertise.

Ros is chartered with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and registered as a Counselling Psychologist practitioner with the Health Professions Council (HCPC).
