About me

Mr Pickering is a Consultant Hand & Orthopaedic Surgeon and holds a substantive NHS Consultant post at The Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust, including at the National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases.

Having graduated from the University of Bristol with degrees in both Pharmacology and Medicine, Mr Pickering then completed his foundation training before spending time training in New Zealand, Australia and across the South Pacific.

Mr Pickering returned to the UK, undertaking his higher specialist training in Trauma & Orthopaedics on the Severn (Bristol) Rotation. He was a very active member of the rotation, and served as President of the Trainees’ Group during his final year.

Mr Pickering completed his sub-specialist training as a National Training Interface Group Fellow in Hand Surgery, having ranked first in his application year, at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham.

During this time Mr Pickering was the British Delegate to the American Society for Surgery of the Hand International Travelling Fellowship (visiting units including the Indiana Hand Centre, Harvard University, Massachusetts General Hospital, The University of Chicago and OrthoCarolina), as well completing the British Diploma in Hand Surgery.

Mr Pickering has a particular interest in medical education, and has multiple formal qualifications in this field. He continues to develop and deliver cadaveric surgical training courses, as well as being a supervisor and trainer of future orthopaedic and hand surgeons.
