About me

I'm Dr Dane Duncan, a practical, values-led Clinical Psychologist who blends NHS-honed clinical skills with a warm, human approach. After 13 years in the NHS (including paediatrics at Great Ormond Street and specialist work with Cystic Fibrosis at St Bartholomew's), I now work privately and online with adults, couples and families. I'm also a supervisor and guest lecturer to trainee psychologists.

What makes my work different is how I hold both evidence and humanity together. I don't reduce you to labels, I separate the person from the problem, centre your story and your values, and help you build tools that actually fit your life. I specialise in trauma and use three complementary trauma therapies so we can choose the best way forward together: EMDR, Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET) (including Kid-NET where relevant), and narrative/values-centred approaches that reconnect meaning, identity and community.

I work with people dealing with trauma, relationship difficulties, identity questions and life transitions. I'm LGBT+ affirmative and committed to culturally sensitive, anti-oppressive practice. My sessions are practical, relational and paced to your needs,whether you want short-term focused work or a longer therapeutic journey.

Personal interests

I have special interests in a Narrative Therapy Framework. My thesis used a Narrative Practice Framework to design a therapy group called The Theatre of Life (Duncan, 2017) involving community and participants in community action research at all stages from design, data collection and data analysis. I have attended additional specialist training with Gendered Intelligence, for working in therapy with gender diversity.
