About me

Mr Andrew Wheelton is a UK-trained Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hip and knee surgery. His expertise includes minimally invasive joint replacement, partial knee replacement, and advanced day-case joint replacement techniques designed to reduce pain and swelling and speed recovery. These approaches were refined during fellowship training in Toronto, Canada, and through ongoing collaboration with internationally renowned surgeons, ensuring his practice remains at the forefront of evidence-based care.

Raised in Manchester, Mr Wheelton graduated from Newcastle University with distinction before completing orthopaedic training across Manchester and Lancashire. He then undertook specialist fellowship training at the Holland Orthopaedic & Arthritic Centre, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto � one of the world's leading hip and knee replacement hospitals � earning both the Royal College of Surgeons Travelling Fellowship and the Current Concepts Fellowship awards, as well as a Diploma in Adult Hip and Knee Reconstruction from the University of Toronto.

Appointed as a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at The Northern Care Alliance NHS Trust in 2019, he established a thriving private practice in Manchester and Huddersfield in 2023. Recognised for excellence in patient care, he has received Doctify's Outstanding Patient Experience award in 2024 and 2025, placing him in the top 10% of UK surgeons. A high-volume operator, Mr Wheelton performs over 250 hip and knee replacements annually � more than double the national average.
