**Professional Profile**
Dr. Browning has been a consultant since 1999, following his qualification as an MBBS from St Bartholomew's Hospital Medical School in 1988. Initially training in cardiac surgery, he later pursued his intended career in anaesthetics and intensive care medicine. Dr. Browning completed his early training at the Magill Department of Anaesthesia at The Westminster, Charing Cross, and Chelsea and Westminster Hospitals before advancing his expertise at St Bartholomew's and The Royal London Hospitals. In 1994, he was elected as a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists, and he is also a Fellow of the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine.
After completing his postgraduate examinations, Dr. Browning joined the London Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS), spending nine months attending to severely injured patients across the capital. He subsequently undertook a year of specialized practice at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
As a founder member of the Peri-Operative Testing and Training Society (POETTS), Dr. Browning is a recognized trainer and mentor in Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET). He established his CPET service in 2007�one of only eight in the UK at the time�and has since conducted over 3,000 tests. Dr. Browning is actively engaged in collaborative research within this field, achieving notable recognition with the prestigious John Farndon Prize in 2017.
He recently concluded a collaborative research project, the PReEMPT trial, investigating the effects of exercise training on outcomes for patients with oesophageal cancer.
In his current role, Dr. Browning serves as a Consultant Anaesthetist and Intensivist, where he is the Perioperative Medicine Lead with a focus on prehabilitation and managing high-risk surgical patients. He has been instrumental in advancing enhanced recovery practices and improving perioperative care for patients undergoing major surgery.
Dr. Browning is also actively involved in medical education as the Year 3 Perioperative Lead for the Kent and Medway Medical School (KMMS). In addition to supervising Year 3 students, he serves as a Clinical Academic Tutor at KMMS.
