About me
Dr Imran Petkar is a highly experienced and qualified oncologist who consults at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, as well as working as a senior lecturer at King's College London.
Dr Petkar undertook a 2-year clinical research fellowship with the head and neck unit at the Royal Marsden Hospital and Institute of Cancer Research between 2015 and 2017. Dr Petkar's research investigated how advanced radiotherapy techniques, including IMRT (intensity modulated radiation therapy) could reduce treatment-related toxicities while also improving patients' quality of life; he was awarded an MD for this work. His work has been published in peer-reviewed journals and has been presented at conferences worldwide.
After completing his training, Dr Petkar became a consultant clinical oncologist at the Royal Marsden Hospital specialising in the treatment of head and neck and thyroid cancers. He remained there for one year before joining Guy's and St Thomas' in 2019.
Areas of interest
He specialises in the treatment of head and neck cancers, colorectal cancers.
