About me

Mr Espeed Khoshbin is a consultant in cardiac surgery transplantation and mechanical circulatory support at Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospital as part of Gusy's and St Thomas Trust. He is a leading surgeon and an honorary clinical senior lecturer at the National Heart and Lung Institute Imperial College, London. He is an Academic Tutor at the Imperial School of Medicine in London.
He qualified from Aberdeen Medical School with an MB ChB and achieved a post graduate research doctorate (MD) from the University of Leicester.

Mr Khoshbin began his training in cardiac surgery at St Marys Hospital in London as part of East Thames rotation. As a national trainee in cardiac surgery, he achieved fellowship of The Surgical Royal Colleges of Great Britain and Ireland (FRCS CTh) and was appointed to the UK’s prestigious National Peri-CCT Fellowship in Cardiothoracic Transplantation.
He was awarded a travelling scholarship through the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation to the University College Los Angeles (UCLA), California.
He is the national lead for heart and lung transplant education. Specialty advisory Committee (SAC) lead for Transplantation and Mechanical Circulatory Support. The NHS lead for organ utilization at Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals. Examiner for the board of European and UK examinations in cardiac surgery. He is an Expert Advisor to NICE and NIHR.

Areas of interest

Mr Khoshbin has performed over a 1,000 major cardiac procedures. He performs a variety of major cardiac operations including heart and lung transplantation. He is highly specialized in surgical therapy for heart failure through transplantation and ventricular assist device technologies.

He offers personalized treatment and outstanding outcomes in:

On-pump full coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and total arterial revascularization when indicated.
Open heart replacement for isolated aortic valve, mitral valve, and multi-heart valve structural heart diseases.
Surgical replacement of the aortic root and the ascending aorta.
