About me

I am a dual fellowship-trained Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon based at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. I provide a comprehensive service as a Specialist Knee Surgeon, delivering the best patient experience with a solid contribution to research and education.

With a modern, patient-specific approach to soft tissue injuries of the knee, I regularly manage professional and amateur athletes from a broad spectrum of sports and perform a wide range of procedures, including primary and revision ACL reconstruction, meniscal repair, cartilage surgery, enabling athletes to return to sport and play. I also perform PCL, multi-ligament reconstruction, patella-femoral (kneecap), and realignment procedures.

More recently, I obtained a Diploma in Sport and Exercise Medicine, which broadened my knowledge of treating and rehabilitating sports injuries around the knee. My aim is a stable and pain-free knee for sport and life.

I offer solutions for early arthritis, including biological joint injections, cartilage procedures, and osteotomy surgery. For patients with advanced (bone on bone) arthritis, my philosophy is only to replace the diseased area of the arthritic knee. I perform partial and total knee replacements, including patellofemoral joint replacements.

I graduated from the Medical University Graz in Austria, earning my MD in 2006. After gaining international experience in Switzerland and South Africa, I moved to the UK and completed comprehensive orthopaedic training on the Mersey Rotation.

Additionally, I secured two advanced competitive fellowships at Wrightington Hospital, focusing on Sports Knee Surgery and Lower Limb Arthroplasty. I completed an MSc in Musculoskeletal Science with Distinction from the UCL (London) and Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) at Stanmore.

Both Wrightington Hospital and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital are renowned world-class specialist centres and have been peer-elected to the top 15 best specialist orthopaedic hospitals in the world.

I obtained multiple national and international exam-based qualifications:
• MD - University of Graz, Austria in 2006
• ALS Instructor (Resuscitation), UK in 2010
• MRCS - Royal College of Surgeons of England, UK in 2011
• MSc Musculoskeletal Science - University College London, RNOH, UK in 2016
• SICOT Diploma - International Society of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology, Montreal, Canada in 2018
• FEBOT - European Board of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, Lisbon, Portugal in 2018
• FRCS (Tr & Orth) - Royal College of Surgeons of England, UK in 2018
• PG-Certificate (Medical Education) - Edge Hill University, UK in 2020
• ATLS Instructor, UK in 2020
• FHEA - Higher Education Academy, UK in 2021
• MFSTEd - Faculty of Surgical Trainers, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, UK in 2021
• MFSEM - Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine, UK in 2022

As a result of my academic activity, I won multiple prizes, published numerous papers, and gave over 50 presentations at national and international meetings on five continents. For my research, I was nominated for the best paper prize in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and the best poster prize in Dubai, UAE.

Additionally, I have attended over 100 courses and 25 conferences worldwide. Subsequently, I contribute to meaningful research and provide treatment based on the latest evidence.

I am a keen educator and hold multiple teaching qualifications. I have been the President-Elect of FORTE and an executive committee member. FORTE is a large, international educational organisation representing European orthopaedic surgeons in training.
