About me

I am a consultant diagnostic and interventional radiologist appointed in 1999 at University Hospital Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. I also had an honorary contract with Birmingham Women's & Children's Hospital Foundation Trust from 2002. In 2022 I moved to Birmingham Women's & Children's Hospital Foundation Trusts to lead their Interventional Radiology services.

Within diagnostic radiology I sub-specialise in genitourinary and gastrointestinal imaging with specific interests in CT & MRI imaging renal, bladder and prostate cancer (including multiparametric MRI prostate), benign urological disease, colorectal disease (colorectal cancer and perianal disease) and small bowel MRI imaging.

In Interventional radiology (image guided surgery) I specialise in a number of areas including interventional oncology (IO), which treats a number of cancers using image guided surgery. These include tumour ablation, tumour embolisation & treatment of vascular malformations and vascular access (port and hickman line insertion). I also specialise in embolisation in a number of benign conditions including varicocele's, pelvic congestion syndrome, prostate artery embolisation for BPH and uterine fibroid embolisation.

I am actively involved in teaching and training both locally and nationally giving regular lectures and mentoring other consultants to teach about the management of genitourinary, colorectal and interventional radiology. I am active in research, publications and have written several book chapters.

To develop the knowledge and help improve patient care by delivering education to consultants and junior doctors in these areas I was a co-founder of the British Society of Genitourinary Radiology (BSUR) the interventional oncology UK (IOUK) society and vascular anomalies special interest group (VASIG).

I am a member of a number of societies giving workshops and being on faculty regularly. These include the British Society of Gastrointestinal & Abdominal Radiology (BSGAR), British Society of Interventional Radiology (BSIR) and the Royal College of Radiologists (RCR).

My research interests are male imaging with special reference to multi-parametric MRI prostate imaging, complex genitourinary MRI, renal tumour ablation, prostate artery embolisation and small and large bowel CT & MRI imaging.

I have held numerous positions within a number of national societies as well as European societies. I am a past president of the British Society of Interventional Radiology (2019-2021) and a member of the Royal College of Radiologst's Interventional committee.
