Dr Irfan Ahmed - Consultant in Musculoskeletal, Sport & Exercise Medicine (SEM)

Dr Irfan Ahmed graduated from the University of Cambridge. He has completed higher specialist training in Sport & Exercise Medicine (London Deanery) and is a current Fellow of the Faculty of Sport & Exercise Medicine.

Treatments/services provided:

Dr Ahmed has extensive clinical experience in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of sudden (acute) and long term (chronic) musculoskeletal conditions and sports injuries. This includes offering the following treatments in in adults, adolescent and exercising patients.

1) Musculoskeletal ultrasound and ultrasound guided steroid injections.
2) Non-surgical treatments for osteoarthritis (visco-supplementation/ hyaluronic acid injection).
3) Extracorpeal shockwave therapy and injection treatments for common tendon conditions (Achilles tendinopathy, tennis elbow, hip related tendon injuries and patella tendinopathy).
4) High volume ultrasound guided injections and shoulder hydrodistension.
5) Non-surgical treatments for shoulder pain, rotator cuff injuries and frozen shoulder.
6) Suprascapular nerve blocks.
7) The assessment and treatment of muscle injuries.
8) The assessment and treatment of bone stress injuries (in adults and adolescents).
9) The assessment of bone health in endurance athletes and exercising patients.
10) The assessment and treatment of back pain.
11) Advice on intermittent fasting for health and performance.
12) The assessment of exercise related conditions in endurance athletes and exertional rhabdomyolysis.
13) The assessment of exercise performance for strength and aerobic fitness.
14) The assessment and treatment of Relative Energy Deficiency - Syndrome (RED-S) in exercising patients.

Dr Ahmed will offer a personalised approach to the diagnosis and treatment of Musculoskeletal injuries. This includes using the latest treatment and research to enable patients to reach their goals, whether it be a return to sport, exercise, occupation, or hobbies.
