About me
I'm a Consultant Psychiatrist working at the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. Over the years, I've gained broad experience in supporting people with a wide range of mental health challengesfrom depression and anxiety (including obsessive compulsive disorder, generalised anxiety and PTSD), and adjustment difficulties, to bipolar disorder, personality difficulties, and psychotic illnesses such as schizophrenia. I'm accredited in general adult psychiatry and also hold a Royal College of Psychiatrists endorsement in Substance Misuse Psychiatry, including support for alcohol-related difficulties.
My approach is holistic and person-centred. I aim to understand each individual's story and the emotional context of their difficulties. I often draw on psychoanalytically-informed thinking in my assessments and formulations, which helps guide recovery in a thoughtful and meaningful way. I also have experience in other approaches, such as Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and integrate these where helpful.
In my NHS role, I work in a Lambeth Community Mental Health Team, alongside GPs and third sector organisations, supporting the mental health needs of a diverse local community.
I trained in psychiatry at South West London and St George's NHS Trust, completing my training at the Maudsley. I also completed a Postgraduate Diploma in the Foundations of Psychodynamic Psychotherapy at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust, which continues to shape the way I think about mental health and emotional wellbeing.
Teaching and mentoring are also important parts of my work. I supervise junior doctors in psychiatry, support GPs during their placements, and teach medical students from Guy's, King's and St Thomas' medical schools. I also enjoy mentoring psychiatrists as they prepare for the transition into independent consultant roles.
