About me
Dr Richard Carroll graduated from Sheffield University Medical School in 1990. He was awarded the Gold Medal in Clinical Medicine, Clinical Surgery and Paediatrics. Thereafter, Dr Carroll studied post graduate general medicine on the Mersey regional rotation where he quickly gained MRCP and was admitted to the Royal College of Physicians of London. He was then appointed as Cardiology registrar in the West Midlands Deanery where he continued his training.
Dr Carroll completed his sub-specialist training in interventional cardiology at the University of Birmingham and was appointed as Consultant Cardiologist at Northwest London Hospital and St Marys Hospital, Paddington in the summer of 2003.
He extended his training to ensure dual accreditation in both General Internal Medicine and Interventional Cardiology. This unique expertise ensures Dr Carroll can see the whole spectrum of emergency medicine illnesses, not just from the perspective of that of the interventional cardiologist.
Dr Carroll sees patients with all types of heart problems such as Chest Pain, Breathlessness, Palpitations, High Blood Pressure, Blackouts and Fatigue and Heart Failure. In cardiology, his particular interest is Coronary Heart Disease, such as Angina and Heart Attacks, and the prevention of this problem by the management of risk factors such as High Blood Pressure, high cholesterol and other cardiac conditions. He has a particular interest in Coronary Intervention and special techniques of imaging the heart using ultrasound and x-rays.
He trains undergraduate medical students and post graduate doctors to consultant level both from the UK and overseas. He is an invited lecturer within the NHS and international frameworks of healthcare, and is an examiner at Imperial College London.
