About me

Mr Paul Sutton is a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon. He sees private patients at HCA The Wilmslow Hospital and at The Christie Clinic, and is the director of the Cheshire Bowel Clinic (Home).

Mr Sutton treats patients with a wide range of abdominal and bowel symptoms, as well as problems around the bottom, and general surgical conditions such as hernias. He is also the lead clinician for the endoscopy unit, undertaking gastroscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, and both diagnostic and interventional colonoscopy.

He is also a recognised expert in colorectal cancer surgery, with his NHS practice based at the world renowned Christie Hospital. Here, Mr Sutton treats patients with advanced, recurrent, and metastatic colorectal cancer, including undertaking highly complex and specialist procedures such as pelvic exenteration, sacrectomy, and cytoreductive surgery with heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy.

Research interests

Mr Sutton's research interests are in predicting and modifying response to adjuvant therapy in colorectal cancer, and more recently in improving outcomes for patients with locally advanced and recurrent rectal cancer. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers and is an editor for The BJS (formerly The British Journal of Surgery).

Mr Sutton is an Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Division of Cancer Sciences at The University of Manchester undertaking clinical, quality of life and genomic research into locally recurrent rectal cancer.

Mr Sutton was the Vice President of the Association of Surgeons in Training (2016-2018) and remains committed to both undergraduate and postgraduate surgical education. Mr Sutton is a Member of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers of the Royal College of Surgeons, a GMC approved trainer, and a JAG approved colonoscopy trainer.

Personal interests

Mr Sutton is married with two young children who enjoy sports and frequent trips to North Wales. His hobbies include flying and target rifle shooting.
