About me
Sarah trained at Guy's, King's and St Thomas's Medical and Dental Schools and qualified as a Doctor in 2001. Whilst a medical student, Sarah joined the British Army on a cadetship and subsequently spent 11 years training as an Army GP and serving with the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, DMRC Headley Court, 13 Regiment Royal Artillery and the Joint CBRN Regiment. During this time, she developed her interest in both Sport and Exercise Medicine and Women's Health, completing the Diploma of Sport and Exercise Medicine and the Diploma of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2006 and 2007 respectively.
In 2009, Sarah left the Army and took up a post with the Ministry of Defence as a Civil Servant GP and in 2012 she moved to the Regional Rehabilitation Unit in Aldershot to work in Sport, Exercise and Musculoskeletal Medicine. In 2020, the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine awarded a Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration to Sarah and she continued to work at the Regional Rehabilitation Unit in Aldershot as a Consultant in Sport and Exercise Medicine, looking after injured Tri-service Personnel until November 2025.
Sarah has a specialist interest in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound and in 2017 she completed her Masters in Medical Ultrasound with the University of Bournemouth and she has held an Honorary position with the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust, where she worked in an NHS Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Clinic. In 2018, Sarah wrote the FSEM UK and MOD training guidelines for MSK US training and mentoring and she is an MSK US mentor, supporting doctors, physiotherapists and sonographers who are training in MSK US.
Sarah's other special interest is in Women's Health Rehabilitation. In the MOD, Sarah was the Lead Doctor for the Women's Health Rehabilitation Working Group and co-wrote the Defence Women's Health Rehabilitation Best Practice Guidelines. Part of this work included creating the US protocol for the diagnosis of diastasis recti abdominis for assessment of women with functional limitations due to this post-pregnancy problem and this remains an area of particular expertise, assessing women post-pregnancy, potentially referring on those women who demonstrate functional limitations due to their persistent diastasis. Sarah also wrote the section for the Investigation of Popliteal Artery Entrapment Syndrome for the Defence Best Practice Guideline, which highlights her interest in exertional lower limb pain/exercise induced leg pain.
Sarah has worked in Elite Sport, supporting the British Orienteering Team as Event Doctor in the past and continues to support the athletes in the Junior and Senior Squad. She has worked with GB Hockey, worked as a Medical Officer at the School Games and in 2018 she was a travelling doctor with Team UK to the Invictus Games in Sydney, supporting the Team of injured serving and ex-serving Tri-service Military Personnel.
Sarah is a runner and orienteer, and an ex-GB athlete herself having represented Great Britain at 11 World Orienteering Championships. She is passionate about exercise and physical activity for all and helping people, whatever their level, to stay healthy and enjoy being active. She is interested in all aspects of Sport, Exercise and Musculoskeletal Medicine but in particular exercise induced leg pain, women's health including ante- and postnatal exercise support and postnatal musculoskeletal rehabilitation especially diastasis recti abdominis, diagnostic ultrasound, peripheral ultrasound guided injections, tendon and muscle injuries including those of the anterior abdominal wall and running biomechanics. Her most recent interest is in ACL Cross BracingTM, the conservative treatment of anterior cruciate ligament injuries and she is one of the lead Doctors at Pure Sports Medicine for this service.
