About me

Professor Pallav Shah works as a consultant respiratory physician at the Royal Brompton Hospital and the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital. He is also Honorary Consultant Physician to the Royal Marsden Hospital & the Royal Hospital Chelsea and a Professor in Respiratory Medicine at Imperial College, London.

He is involved in the diagnosis and treatment of all aspects of respiratory disease. He leads the Lung Cancer and Bronchoscopy Service for the Royal Brompton Hospital and the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital. He is particularly interested in interventional bronchoscopy and its application to respiratory medicine. He has pioneered several novel procedures for the treatment of lung diseases such as bronchial thermoplasty for asthma and lung volume reduction for emphysema. He uses techniques such as placing endobronchial valves, airway bypass procedure, insertion of RePneu Lung volume reduction coils and vapour therapy for severe emphysema. He is currently developing new treatments for COPD: targeted lung denervation and the RejuvenAir procedure with liquid nitrogen metered cryospray. In lung cancer he offers treatments such as cryotherapy through to the insertion of gold markers which enables treatment with the CyberKnife.

He is active in both the research and development of new treatments. He is a Professor at Imperial College and has over 200 papers and several books including his contribution as sectional editor of the thoracic section of Grays Anatomy (39th edition) and the Oxford Textbook of Medicine (6th edition). He has also written a novel Atlas of bronchoscopy which provides guidance on all aspects of bronchoscopy from basic anatomy through to interventional procedures.
