About me
Mr. Luca Lancerotto is a highly specialised Plastic and Hand surgeon. His NHS practice is based at St. John's Hospital, NHS Lothian, and his private practice at Spire Shawfair Park Hospital in Edinburgh.
He is Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh.
He is full member of BAPRAS and BSSH, the national societies of Plastic reconstructive surgeons and Hand surgeons.
As a hand surgeon he has a special interest in the treatment of Dupuytren's constracture, and he practices all aspects of hand surgery, including treatment for peripheral nerve compressions such as carpal and cubital tunnel surgery, tendon surgery and treatment of tendonitis, trigger finger surgery, steroid injections, joint injections, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, trapeziectomy, joints fusions and joints replacements, treatment of mucous cysts.
As a plastic surgeon and microsurgeon he performs skin cancer surgery, such as removal of basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, melanoma, and of benign lesions such as lipomas or cysts, and reconstructions with skin grafts and local flaps.
He graduated with honours in 2007 at the University of Padova, Italy, where he trained as a Plastic and Hand surgeon until 2014.
In 2015 he was awarded a scholarship by the European Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic surgeons at the University of Helsinki, Finland, before moving to Edinburgh for further training. In 2017 he undertook a fellowship in Microsurgery in Bristol, before returning to Edinburgh as a Consultant Plastic and Hand surgeon at St John's Hospital.
He has complemented his surgical career with an extensive involvement in anatomical, basic science and clinical research, including as a research fellow at Brigham and Women's Hospital / Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA, which has led to many publications in peer-reviewed journals, awards and research grants, and a PhD title from the University of Padova.
