About me
Atanu has been a consultant surgeon for 7 years. He works at Cambridge University Hospitals and Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital, with expertise in robotic, laparoscopic and open colorectal and general surgery. He studied medicine at Cambridge University and has conducted research at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts, USA, gaining a Doctorate of Medicine. He also did a surgical fellowship in New Zealand.
He specialises in colorectal and general surgery. This includes treatment of abdominal wall hernia (groin / inguinal / femoral, para-umbilical, incisional), proctology (haemorrhoids, fistula, fissure, pilonidal sinus), and the investigation of bowel symptoms (colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy). He also works with gynaecology to treat complex and deep endometriosis of the bowel (robotic / laparoscopic).
In the NHS he is a trainer in surgery and endoscopy. He also instructs nationally and internationally on several surgical courses covering trauma care and decision-making in surgery. He has active research interests in robotic surgery, colorectal surgery, and human factors. He presents at and is invited to speak at large international conferences and publishes regularly in high impact peer-reviewed journals.
