About me

I am an Endoscopy Trainer at the Mersey School of Endoscopy (one of three National training centres). I am an advanced therapeutic endoscopist working as part of the regional Hepatobiliary team receiving Regional Referrals from across the North West. I practice in a very patient centred way. Being a patient myself taught me a big lesson in the importance of being kind and compassionate.

I work privately from BMI The Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle, the Alex has level 3 ITU and fantastic facilities for my patients.

Research interests

I was the Principal Site Investigator for three recent National Cancer Network Studies

- AspECT (Aspirin and Esomeprazole chemo-prevention in Barrett's metaplasia) This is a major long term
(10 year) follow up study to prevent progression to oesophageal cancer. See Manchester Evening News (5 / 2 /
2007)
- Photostent 02. This focuses on the efficacy of photodynamic therapy (PDT) in patients with
cholangiocarcinoma. North Manchester was the only site in the North-West participating in this trial.
- BOSS (Barrett's Oesophagus bi-annual surveillance,versus endoscopy at need: a randomised controlled trial to
estimate effectiveness and cost-effectiveness study.
I have also been the Principal Site Investigator for
- The target Study. Prospective randomised controlled trial. Azathioprine response to genotyping and enzyme
testing (2005 to 2007)
- The Predocol Study: Double blind comparative study of predocol versus prednisolone in ulcerative colitis (2003
to 2005)

Personal interests

I am married with three teenage children. My interests include a passion for gardening and growing my own vegetables on our farm, along with caring for the numerous animals that reside with us!!

In my spare time my three labradors enjoy a walk along the canal.
