About me
Ms Sarah Addison is a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon at the Priory Hospital. She graduated from the University of Birmingham in 1996. Ms Addison’s basic surgical training was performed in the West Midlands. She moved to East Anglia for a laboratory based research post looking at colonic calcium signalling. Following her research post, Ms Addison moved back to the West Midlands for her registrar surgical training in general and colorectal surgery. She completed this in 2009.
During her registrar training, she undertook a travelling fellowship to the Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St Louis to study advances in laparoscopic surgery and advanced peritoneal cancer, having been awarded a regional fellowship. On completion of her training, Ms Addison took a post as a consultant colorectal surgeon at Walsall Manor Hospital. There she developed a joint pelvic floor clinic with a uro-gynaecologist.
In 2018, she took the opportunity to join the colorectal department at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital with a specialist interest in pelvic floor and functional bowel disorders. Ms Addison works closely with the uro-gynacologists at Birmingham Women’s Hospital and runs a multi-disciplinary service for patients with pelvic floor disorders. She has experience in colorectal cancer, benign coloproctology and pelvic floor disorders including rectal prolapse, obstructed defaecation and slow transit constipation.
