About me
Bilal Jamal is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon whose NHS practice is based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.
Bilal has private practicing privileges at Rosshall hospital, . Bilal is a prominent expert within the field of orthopaedics as is evidenced by the fact that he is a member of council of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow where he is also the Director of Surgical Education. In addition, Bilal is a member of the executive committee of the British Limb Reconstruction Society as well as being a member of the trauma committee of the British Orthopaedic Association
Bilal graduated from the University of Aberdeen in 2006 and completed his orthopaedic training in the West of Scotland. This has been supplemented with further subspecialist training in Sheffield and Edinburgh. Mr Jamal is a recipient of the prestigious European Foot and Ankle Society travelling fellowship. Bilal has travelled widely allowing him to gain further experience in orthopaedic surgery by visiting internationally recognised centres in Heidelberg, Lyon and Verona.
Mr Jamal was appointed as a consultant in 2017. His practice consists entirely of foot, ankle and limb reconstruction surgery. Sub specialisation of this nature allows Mr Jamal to offer the latest techniques which maximises patient comfort and outcome. He is known for his pragmatic approach and will only operate when there is no other reasonable alternative.
Examples of the type of operations he commonly carries out are bunion corrections, forefoot deformity correction, ankle arthroscopy, ankle ligament reconstruction, flat foot and high arch deformity correction, arthroscopic ankle fusion, all varieties of Achilles and other tendon operations as well as all revision cases.
In addition, Mr Jamal regularly performs corrections of lower limb deformity, non-union surgery and limb lengthening. He is a keen proponent of ankle distraction arthroplasty for ankle arthritis. He uses a variety of devices to aid optimal outcomes. These include lengthening nails, as well as ilizarov frames.
He has published several peer-reviewed papers. He presents regularly at national and international orthopaedic surgery conferences.
In addition to being a member of faculty on numerous orthopaedic courses, Bilal is course director of the flagship Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow annual international trauma and orthopaedic meeting.
