About me
Mr Jonathan Barber is a highly regarded specialist in musculoskeletal (MSK) podiatry and podiatric sports medicine. He qualified in 2016 at the University of Southampton, graduating with first class honours. In each year of University Jonathan obtained the Dean's List Award for Outstanding Achievement.
Following qualification, Jonathan worked for the prestigious Guy's and St Thomas' hospitals in a rotational post. He gained experience in tissue viability, minor surgery, biomechanics, gait analysis and MSK podiatry. He currently holds a senior specialist NHS post in MSK for Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust in Bexley at Queen Mary's Hospital.
As a podiatrist, Jonathan is qualified to assess and manage problems of the foot and ankle. He has a strong interest in sporting injury, particularly in endurance athletes such as runners and triathletes. He has worked with elite athletes as part of the London Marathon medical team and with ultra-marathon runners and walkers at the Action Challenge ultra-marathon events. Jonathan has completed an MSc in podiatric sports medicine at the Queen Mary University London, graduating in 2022.
Jonathan has always worked in a multidisciplinary setting, and this has enabled him to understand how collaborative working provides the most effective outcome for respective patient groups.
He believes that the ability to communicate openly with those involved in the care pathways are instrumental in optimising the end results for his patients and the process of understanding and learning from other disciplines makes clinical practice exciting and rewarding.
The treatments he offers include custom foot orthoses / insoles, footwear recommendations, tailored home exercise programmes, injection therapy and nail surgery. He has a special interest in biomechanics and gait analysis.
Jonathan gained fellowship of the Faculty of Podiatric Medicine, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 2024. He is a member of the Royal College of Podiatry and is HCPC registered.
