About me

Dr Karen Tipples is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at Barts Health specialising in the treatment of urological cancers. She has a specialist interest in the treatment of prostate cancer with stereotactic radiotherapy. She is the Clinical Director for Urology for the Barts Cancer Centre and for Education and Training. She has been the Lead Clinician for the Barts Cancer Centre Urology Multi-Disciplinary Team and the Prostate Cancer Specialist Clinic.

She has a particular passion for training of junior doctors, having been the Royal College of Radiologists Trainer of the Year, and a member of the Royal College of Radiologists National Specialty Training Board and Curriculum Committees. She is also the Deputy Clinical Lead nationally for recruitment of junior doctors into oncology training, supervising and developing the recruitment process to ensure the appointment of the best possible candidates to train to be the consultants of the future.

She is a registered cyberknife practitioner and delivers stereotactic radiotherapy (SABR) for prostate cancer in both the curative and palliative (metastatic) setting. She uses start of the art radiotherapy techniques in all aspects of her practice.
