About me
I am an HCPC-registered, BPS-accredited Counselling Psychologist with over 15 years' experience working with adults with a range of mental health and personal difficulties, in various clinical settings including NHS Increasing Access for Psychological Therapies (IAPT), NHS primary and secondary care, University counselling services, charity, and the private sector.
I also conduct psychotherapy research into processes that improve client outcomes and edit an international peer-reviewed psychotherapy research journal. I use research to inform my practice.
I have helped clients with issues of depression, anxiety, anger, stress, self-confidence, past trauma, problematic relationships, and coping with chronic illness. I have also treated patients with diagnoses of borderline bipolar, chronic fatigue, phobias, generalized anxiety, and Asperger syndrome.
I offer a non-judgmental attitude and safe space for my clients. The initial sessions begin with an exploration of issues, to arrive at mutually agreed goals and plans for psychotherapy. I integrate evidence-based models of psychotherapy to suit each client's individual needs and preferences.
My approach is based on Cognitive-Behavioural, Emotion-Focused and Psychodynamic psychotherapies, focusing on the impact of patterns of thinking on one's emotional health and behaviours. Longer-term issues are treated with insight-based psychotherapy to achieve long-term change. I provide in-the-moment understanding and support paired with gentle challenge. I sometimes use mindfulness techniques to invite a deeper exploration of feelings and experiences. My aim is to support insights, long-lasting change and growth.
You can send me an email to arrange a 15-minute free telephone consultation and book a first session.
