About me

I am an HCPC-registered, BPS-accredited Counselling Psychologist with 15 years' experience working with adults with a range of mental health and personal difficulties, in various clinical settings including NHS Increasing Access for Psychological Therapies (IAPT), NHS primary and secondary care, University counselling services, and the charity sector.

I have helped clients with issues of depression, anxiety, anger, stress, self-confidence, past trauma, problematic relationships, and coping with chronic illness. I have treated patients with diagnoses of borderline bipolar, chronic fatigue, phobias, generalized anxiety, and Asperger syndrome.

My non-judgmental and empathic attitude provides a safe and inviting space for clients. The initial sessions begin with an exploration of clients' issues, followed by the formulation of mutually agreed goals and plans for psychotherapy. I integrate evidence-based models of psychotherapy to suit each client's individual needs and preferences.

My approach is based on Cognitive-Behavioural, Emotion-Focused and Psychodynamic psychotherapies, focusing on the impact of patterns of thinking on one's emotional health and behaviours. More pervasive issues are treated with insight-based psychotherapy for long-term change. I provide in-the-moment emotional atunement, gentle challenge alongside warm support, and the use of mindfulness techniques to invite a deep exploration of feelings and experiences. This approach supports the emergence of insights which can lead to behaviour change, and promote long-lasting growth.

I also conduct psychotherapy research into processes that improve treatment outcomes, and those clients find most helpful, directly informing my practice. I also teach on Counselling Psychology doctorate programmes in London, and am Editor-in-Chief of the international peer-reviewed research journal 'Counselling and Psychotherapy Research'.

I will be unavailable to offer sessions over the summer from mid-June to mid-September 2024.

You can send me an email to arrange a 15-minute free telephone consultation and arrange a session.
