About me

Hi! Im Jinnie and Im a Clinical Psychologist.

Can you tell me a bit about your background??

I am passionate about mental health and wellbeing, and feel fortunate that I get to work in a field that I love. After completing my undergraduate degree in Malaysia, I moved to the UK to complete my Masters in Child and Family Psychology at the University of East Anglia (UEA). I then completed a PhD specialising in childhood anxiety and worked as a postdoctoral researcher before completing my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at UEA.

I currently work as a clinical psychologist in the NHS, working with children and families, as well as adults living with long-term physical health challenges.

What will it be like when I meet you?

I feel that it is a privilege to be allowed into a clients personal world and to join them on their journey to wellbeing or recovery. My priority at the start of therapy is to provide a compassionate, warm and non-judgemental space, so that together we can build a trusting therapeutic relationship and work on overcoming the clients difficulties together.

What therapies do you use and what kind of difficulties do you help people with?

I take a client-centered approach in my work, personalising therapy to each client by integrating techniques from a range of therapies. Therapeutic models I draw from include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), and Systemic Therapy.

I work with clients experiencing a range of difficulties including anxiety, low mood, self-esteem/ confidence, and relationship difficulties, and post-traumatic stress. I specialise in supporting clients to live well with long-term / life-limiting health conditions (e.g., chronic pain, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, neurological disorders, cancer), and help clients cope with grief following the loss of a loved one or anticipatory grief (e.g., when loved ones are living with dementia or terminal illness).

What are your interests outside of psychology?

Being a self-confessed travel foodie, I enjoy every opportunity to explore cuisines from different cultures. To keep active, I enjoy Zumba and going on nature walks. I also love having a creative outlet such as painting, crochet and pottery.
