About me
I have been a Consultant Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon in the Edinburgh ENT department since 2013, and Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer, University of Edinburgh.
I graduated from the University of Bristol with a BSc (First Class Hons) and MBChB in 2001. Following initial training in Bristol, London and Australia, I completed higher surgical training in ENT in Edinburgh.
I am fully trained in all aspects of ear, nose and throat surgery. In addition, I have subspecialist training in advanced rhinology. In 2011-2012 I completed an Endoscopic Sinus and Skull Base Surgery Fellowship at the renowned St Paul’s Sinus Centre, Vancouver, Canada. I was appointed as a Consultant ENT Surgeon in Edinburgh in 2013 and subsequently established the Edinburgh Endoscopic Skull Base Service along with a neurosurgical colleague.
I am active in research and lead the Edinburgh site for a multicentre UK wide study looking into the best management for patients with sinusitis. I regularly teach and present at national and international rhinology meetings and surgical courses. I also have an interest in medical education and training, and have been the Associate Director of Medical Education, and Undergraduate Lead for NHS Lothian. I am a member of the British Rhinological Society, for which I have been the Scottish representative on council for six years. I have helped produce national subspecialty guidelines for the medical and surgical management of sinus disease, and loss of smell related to COVID.
My current scope of practice includes general adult ENT, rhinology and advanced endoscopic surgery. I provide a subspecialty service for the medical and surgical management of all nasal and sinus conditions, including extended applications of endoscopic sinus surgery, such as benign and malignant tumour management, complex frontal, orbital, lacrimal, and skull base surgery.
