About me
I trained in gastroenterology at centres of excellence in London, having achieved a first class degree as a medical student. I was appointed Consultant Gastroenterologist at University Hospital Lewisham in 1998 and have worked as a busy clinican in this post ever since. I have a particular interest in the investigation of abdominal symptoms, including rectal bleeding, pain and changes in bowel habit and bloating, and also in investigation of dyspepsia and heartburn. I undertake a considerable number of endoscopic procedures each year and have a broad experience. In addition, I have developed an excellent multidisciplinary team to which all my patients have access. When not working I enjoy my 5 children, 4 chickens and playing the violin.
Areas of interest
Luminal gastroenterology including irritable bowel syndrome, ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. Investigation of abdominal pain, rectal bleeding and bloating; dyspepsia / peptic ulcer disease and heartburn;colonoscopy and endoscopy; access to multidisciplinary team for management of irritable bowel syndrome including specialist dietician, cognitive behavioural therapy and psychological support; stress related symptoms ; management of the anxious patient;avoidance of medication and invasive testing where possible.
