About me
Jonathan Bell, FRCS(Orth), is a renowned Consultant Orthopaedic Knee Surgeon with extensive expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of knee conditions. His practice encompasses sports injuries, ligament injuries, degenerative conditions and knee replacement, with a particular interest in complex knee problems and providing expert second opinions.
Jonathan's approach is guided by his philosophy of keeping the active active. He has helped thousands of children, teenagers and adults return to their sports, work and hobbies following knee injuries and conditions. He strongly believes in exploring non-operative treatment wherever possible and regularly helps patients manage their knee conditions successfully without surgery. His surgical expertise includes ligament reconstruction, arthroscopy, patellofemoral stabilisation and joint replacement, including bespoke unicompartmental knee replacements individually planned using advanced robotic technology. He has published extensively on surgical techniques, non-operative treatment and some of the earliest biological approaches to treating degenerative knee conditions.
Jonathan is particularly sought out by patients seeking a second opinion for complex, unresolved or challenging knee problems. Many have previously seen one or more specialists, received conflicting advice or remain uncertain about the best course of treatment. He carefully reviews previous consultations, scans and investigations, reassesses diagnoses and considers both surgical and non-surgical options before providing an independent, evidence-based opinion. His thorough and compassionate approach, combined with clear communication, helps patients understand their condition and make informed decisions about their treatment.
He is also well regarded for his work with athletes of all levels, from recreational sportspeople to professional athletes. His particular passion for skiing has led to specialised expertise in treating skiers ranging from beginners to Olympians. His innovative rehabilitation programmes include his unique �Return to Ski Day�, accompanying selected patients back to the slopes following recovery from surgery.
Jonathan graduated from the University of London in 1987 and undertook extensive training at leading institutions including Middlesex, Barts, Great Ormond Street and St George's Hospitals, as well as specialised training in the UK and Australia. He worked in the NHS for over 20 years and has more than two decades of experience as a specialist knee surgeon. He founded Wimbledon Clinics in 2001 and has more recently joined Fortius Clinic. He is also a dedicated teacher who regularly shares his expertise in the UK and internationally.
