About me

Hello, I am Sophie! I am an experienced Clinical Psychologist, registered with The Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC).

How did you become a Clinical Psychologist?

I studied both an Undergraduate degree in Psychology and furthered my studies by completing a Master's degree in Research in Clinical Psychology at the University of Hertfordshire. Following this I worked as an Assistant Psychologist in a number of mental health services and enjoyed working with a wide range of people both individually and in group settings.

After this, I completed my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of East Anglia. During my time on training I worked in both community and inpatient settings across different populations including older adults, adults including those with an eating disorder, children and adolescent, people with learning disabilities and people following a stroke or traumatic brain injury.

I currently work as a Clinical Psychologist for the NHS in an adult mental health team but I am passionate about working with clients of all ages.

What would it be like to meet you?

I place great importance on creating a safe and confidential space where I am guided by your own pace. In the first session, I like to spend time getting to know you, think about what brings you to therapy and what goals you would like to work on in therapy. Ensuring a positive therapeutic relationship is very important and I hope we can work together to understand your current difficulties and explore ways to help achieve your goals.

I am compassionate, honest, and non-judgemental and wish to support you in a collaborative approach promoting warmth and kindness to ensure that you feel listened to and hopefully overcome the challenges you are facing.

What therapies do you use and what kind of difficulties do you help people with?

I have gained experience of working with a range of different types of therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Systemic Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT). When working with clients I often draw from several therapy models to help gain a joint understanding of their current difficulties and to help achieve their goals.

I work with people who experience a range of mental health difficulties including anxiety, depression, OCD, low self-esteem, eating disorders, PTSD, loss/grief, attachment and relationship difficulties.

What do you enjoy doing outside of psychology?

I enjoy being active and taking my dogs for walks in the countryside. I also enjoy running, yoga and recently started Pilates. I love baking and regularly bake cakes for special occasions for my friends and family. I value spending time with my family and building connections with others.
