About me

My name is Katie and I work at Little Bee Clinic as a Clinical Psychologist. Although this profile is geared towards children and young people, I have also been trained to work with adults.

How did you become a psychologist?

Psychologists like me have to go to university and work for several years so they can work with lots of different people and know how to provide different types of talking therapy. My training and work experience means I can tailor-make a therapy for you – everybody is different, and therapy will be too! I only use therapy that I have had lots of training and experience in and that has research to show it is helpful for people experiencing the same things as you.

I have specialist training and experience working with children, teenagers, families, paediatric neuropsychology (where changes to the brain are changing how someone thinks, feels or acts) and psychosis (where people feel very scared or see, hear, or believe things that other people don’t).

Helping people to use their experience of mental health difficulties to improve services and treatments is important to me and am involved in lots of projects that focus on this area. I am also part of a group of professionals who write articles which focus on how life experiences affect mental health.

What will it be like if I come to see you?

When I was at school, I had to see a psychologist for a while, and I remember how nervous I was. I had worrying thoughts like: What will they ask me? Will I have to talk about things I don’t want to? What if they can’t help me? Later, I found out this was a very normal reaction. In fact, most people I work with say they had the same type of worries before they came to see me. So, my top priority is always helping someone to feel relaxed. Nerves tend to go away a bit if we know what is coming so I always make sure we have a plan for our next appointment and explain what I think could be helpful and why.

What do you like doing?

I went back to university again in October to study Theology at the University of Oxford. This means I spend a lot of time reading and writing about very old books! When I am not doing this, my favourite things to do for fun are going to see musicals and plays, listening to music from the 60s and 70s, spending time with the people I love, and teaching my pet rabbit, Abraham, new tricks!
