About me
I qualified in 2001 from Egypt and trained as a general physician. Whilst in the UK, I opted for additional training in General Medicine, before starting training in Cardiology. I always aspired to be a cardiologist and in 2013 I joined the national training programme for cardiology in Wales. I have a breadth of experience working in general cardiology in District General Hospitals and tertiary care cardiac centres. During my training, I had the opportunity to train under some of the leading cardiologists and have been fortunate to acquire a wealth of experience in managing a wide variety of complex cardiac conditions.
My subspecialty training has been in heart failure and complex implantable cardiac devices. I have extensive training in both, and am regarded as an experienced operator of cardiac implantable devices having received excellent training at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff and Morriston Cardiac Centre, Swansea.
Following completion of my cardiology specialist training, I completed a prestigious clinical fellowship in complex cardiac devices training in the Liverpool Heart and Chest Centre under supervision from world-renowned experts in the field.
I have been working as a Consultant Cardiologist at the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (Good Hope Hospital) since June 2020. I see the full spectrum of General Cardiology and also run specialist services in my main subspecialty interests including diagnosis and management of heart failure, cardiomyopathies, heart rhythm problems and recurrent blackouts.
I lead the heart failure service at Good Hope Hospital; I set up a virtual weekly heart failure MDT which is well attended by community heart failure teams from the North and East of Birmingham.
I am passionate about teaching and have been actively involved in training Birmingham Medical School’s undergraduate students, postgraduate teaching and training junior doctors and nurses.
I took the roles of Cardiology lead for fourth-year medical students, senior academic tutor and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Birmingham. Besides teaching, I am keen on the use of quality improvement tools and matrices both for providing patient-focused clinical care and improving the quality of training.
I am multilingual and consultations can be had in Arabic and English. I regularly contribute to charitable work and help raise funds for charitable organisations in the developing world.
If you have complex health problems, then it is advisable to bring a referral letter from your GP to facilitate consultation. However, I am happy to provide consultation without a referral letter if you wish to do so.
