About me

I am a consultant ophthalmologist at the Countess of Chester Hospital where I am the clinical lead for the Emergency Ophthalmology service and also specialises as an Oculoplastic Consultant. Aside from general ophthalmology and primary care I have three main surgical areas of expertise and specialist interest; oculoplastic surgery, lacrimal surgery and cataract surgery.

A little bit about me... I grew up on the Wirral and along with the traditional sciences I studied fine-art at school and pursued this to A-level achieving the highest mark in my year. I am still a keen artist today and often tells my patients that Art has been the best foundation-block to my career as a surgeon.
I graduated from The University of Leeds Medical School in 2009 and worked as house officer in Yorkshire before spending a year working in Emergency Medicine in Cairns, Australia. I returned to the UK and took up my ophthalmology registrar training based in the Mersey region. Here I spent time working at the world-renowned St Paul’s Eye Hospital in Liverpool and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. I then completed a yearlong fellowship within training in oculoplastic, lacrimal and orbital surgery at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital. This was followed by a further 18-month fellowship in oculoplastic, lacrimal and orbital surgery at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

What services do I offer?

I am a highly trained oculoplastic surgeon and I particularly enjoy performing blepharoplasty surgery removing excess eyelid skin to rejuvenate the peri-ocular area. I also have expertise in lifting droopy eyelids (ptosis surgery) and correcting eyelids that have rolled out or inwards (ectropion/entropion surgery).

I provide precise, safe and efficient cataract surgery for routine and complex cases. I offer monofocal, toric and premium intraocular lenses.

I also have expertise in the diagnosis and surgical management of watery eyes.

I have extensive experience treating emergency eye conditions and general ophthalmology conditions such as medical glaucoma

I believe in providing all my patients the highest quality service with a comfortable and relaxed patient journey.

Mr Hickley sees his patients in his dedicated consultation room at BUPA Health Centre in Tarporley, Spire Cheshire, Spire Abergele and North Wales Eye Correction Centre in Bangor.
He operates at Spire Cheshire and Spire Abergele.
