About me

I am a Chartered Clinical Psychologist who completed my doctoral training at Salomons Centre, part of Canterbury Christ Church University in 2003. Since qualifying, I worked for many years in the NHS with adults presenting with complex difficulties and for 6 years was part of a psychosis service. I am currently part of a small team providing psychological support to NHS staff for work related stress/distress in acute healthcare settings.

Philosophy
Life is a journey with many twists and turns and we can all struggle at various times along the way. Mostly we can get by with the support of family and/or friends, but there may be times when this is not enough and we need the support of a trained empathic and non-judgemental professional to help us get back on track or change course. I believe that we all deserve to live well and fulfil our potential.

Approach
I aim to work flexibly with whatever you bring and will adapt my approach accordingly, so that I am the therapist you need me to be. I do not claim to have all the answers and will work collaboratively with you so that you can find some. I mainly draw on 3rd wave CBT and have a particular interest in Compassion Focused Therapy, mindfulness and narrative- based approaches, endeavouring to work with the whole person and not just the problems that you bring. We can lose sight of our inner strengths and resources at times of struggle and I aim to help you get back in touch with them in order to help you move forwards. Sometimes the stories we tell about ourselves hold us back and telling different stories can help us to understand ourselves in more helpful ways and open up possibilities for change.

Motivation
I find it immensely rewarding to work collaboratively with people to help them understand themselves better and make changes in their lives, no matter how small. I am endlessly inspired, as well as humbled, by the stories of the many people I have worked with over the years. I have learnt so much from them and am constantly growing and changing as a therapist.

Areas of interest

I work with working aged adults and am particularly interested in Compassion focused Therapy, a so-called 3rd wave CBT approach, as well as Mindfulness and am a trained facilitator in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy. I have also completed parts 1 and 2 of EMDR training.I work with a range of presentations including work related stress, depression, anxiety, bereavement, trauma.
