About me
Dr Adam Harris, Consultant Gastroenterologist, is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of "luminal gastroenterology" that is, conditions or diseases affecting the gullet (e.g. heartburn or reflux disease), stomach (e.g. ulcers), small and large bowel (e.g. irritable bowel syndrome, coeliac disease, Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis).
He attended Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School, London. After graduation in 1987, he undertook training in internal medicine and gastroenterology at Charing Cross, St Mary's, Central Middlesex, St Thomas' and St George's Hospitals in London and in Kingston, Epsom, Hillingdon and Harefield Hospitals in the Home Counties.
Dr Adam Harris spent two years (1993-5) in full time academic study as a research fellow investigating the relationship between infection with Helicobacter pylori, gastric acid output, duodenal bulb morphology and duodenal ulcer disease. This work was submitted as a thesis to the University of London leading to Doctor of Medicine higher degree.
From 1995 until 1997 he worked as Senior Registrar to Dr JJ Misiewicz and Professor D Silk at Central Middlesex Hospital, London where he completed clinical training in dyspepsia, gastro-oesophageal reflux and developed particular expertise in the management of patients with inflammatory bowel diseases and functional abdominal conditions, such as irritable bowel syndrome.
Dr Adam Harris was appointed as Consultant Physician & Gastroenterologist to the Kent & Sussex Hospital in 1997.
