About me

Summary
He has expertise general nephrology and dialysis, and have worked actively in the medical care of patients with renal transplants in one of the busiest and most diverse renal centres in the UK.

Dr Duncan qualified from St Bartholomew's Hospital Medical College, University of London 1995 with distinctions in Pharmacology and Therapeutics , Merit in Medicine, and Merit in Pathology. He has an Intercalated BSc in Anthropology from University College London. He gained Membership of the Royal College of Physicians London 1998 with Fellowship awarded 2009. He became an Associate Fellow Higher Education Academy in 2015. He has previously been a Royal College Tutor in Teacher training for resident doctors, and was Educational Supervisor of the Year in the Division of Medicine at Imperial College 2019, and with a further Imperial College Education Award in 2025. He was awarded a Diploma in Medical Leadership from Birkbeck University in 2021. He takes up post as Subject Lead for Renal Medicine at the newly formed Pears Cumbria School of Medicine 2025

He has been a Renal Consultant at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust in 2005 and has been Clinical Lead for Dialysis in West London from that time. He achieved a Diploma Certificate in Medical Leadership from Birkbeck University 2021. He works at Hammersmith Hospital with active and extensive clinical experience in Nephrology, Dialysis and Transplantation. He has Honorary Consultancy at Northwick Park Hospital.

He has supervised postgraduate studies for trainee doctors, he supports nurses and pharmacists as independent medical prescribers and has leads a annual Dialysis Academy, a multidisciplinary event with national and international appeal to improve patient care.

Research Interests
He is a member of UK Kidney Association, European Renal Association, and the International Society of Nephrology. His research interests have been in stroke and heart disease in people with renal disease, vascular access for haemodialysis, and currently home haemodialysis, and renal transplant recipients with declining renal function. He collaborates with the Renal Research Institute in New York and the Monitoring Dialysis Outcomes Study MONDO. Special and Clinical Interests
He was liaison officer for a ISN Renal Sisterhood Programme in Colombo Sri Lanka 2018-2022
He has an interest in equity of access to healthcare and has founded an annual Cultural Health Expo in 2025 with the purpose of in reach to the public community in North West London
He has a personal interest in the natural world, art and printmaking, and charity runs
