About me

Mr Dominic Davenport is a Consultant Orthopaedic surgeon who specialises in hip and knee problems including soft tissue reconstruction, joint replacement surgery and management of lower limb injuries.

Mr Davenport qualified from Guys, King's and St. Thomas' Medical School and completed higher surgical training in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery in South London, including rotations at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals, St. George's Hospital and South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC). His training culminated with specialist Fellowship posts, learning advanced techniques in knee surgery under renowned specialists at Guy's Hospital and a Hip Surgery Fellowship at Royal Bournemouth and Poole Hospitals under Professor R.G. Middleton. These experiences have equipped him to handle complex hip and knee procedures, including primary and revision arthroplasties with precision and care.

He has a particular interest in hip and knee replacement including partial knee replacement, enhanced recovery pathways, day-case hip and knee surgery and optimisation of patients health prior to joint replacement surgery. He maintains a busy NHS orthopaedic surgery practice at Princess Royal University Hospital, Bromley and Orpington Hospitals. He has published widely in major Orthopaedic journals and regularly attends and presents at national and international conferences keeping up to date with the latest techniques.

He completed a Masters degree in Sports and Exercise Medicine at the University of Bath (2021). Which provided a robust academic foundation in sport rehabilitation. His dissertation focused on functional outcomes and return to sport in patients with hip dysplasia versus femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) utilizing National Hip Arthroplasty Register (NAHR) data. This research equips him to understand the biomechanical and functional demands of hip and knee joints post-surgery, critical for active individuals undergoing joint replacement.

Mr. Davenport's contributions to orthopaedics extend beyond the operating theatre. He has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, including studies on periprosthetic fractures, atypical femoral fractures, and computer navigation in hip arthroplasty. He is published in journals like 'Geriatric Orthopaedic Surgery & Rehabilitation' and 'Annals of Joint'. His book, 'OSCEsmart - 50 Medical Student OSCEs in Orthopaedics & Rheumatology', supports medical education, reflecting his passion for teaching. He has presented at international conferences, such as the European Hip Society, EFORT and SICOT conferences sharing insights on innovative surgical techniques. His research, including a 2020 study on hip fracture outcomes during the COVID-19 pandemic demonstrates his dedication to advancing patient care through evidence-based practice.

A committed educator, Mr. Davenport has led teaching initiatives for medical students and trainees earning a nomination for regional trainer of the year and a teaching award from King's and PRUH Post Graduate Medical Education Department.

Dominic focuses on a personalised, patient-centred approach to treatment and offers both non-operative and operative treatments for a wide variety of hip and knee problems in adult patients of all age groups.
