About me
After completing my general professional training in the West Midlands, I returned to the University Hospital in Nottingham to undertake my specialist training in dermatology. My research experience provided training in the treatment of allergic and inflammatory skin disorders, and I also developed further expertise in management of skin cancer. My training was consolidated by an overseas fellowship studying Mohs' Micrographic surgery, a highly specialised technique used in treating difficult skin tumours.
I have been able to provide a comprehensive dermatology service after being appointed a consultant in 1999. In addition to a specialised skin cancer treatment, including Mohs Micrographic Surgery and photodynamic Therapy, my practice at Spire Parkway and University Hospitals Birmingham involves the treatment of a broad spectrum of skin disorders.
In addition to my clinical duties, I was the clinical director of dermatology for all four hospitals which are part of the UHB group for several years. This allowed me to develop high quality cost effective care for both NHS and private patients.
I am proud that the quality of our service has been recognised regionally and nationally and I was honored to recently receive the 'Building Healthier Lives Clinical Excellence Award' by the hospital. The only dermatologist to have received this. I am immensely proud to have been recognised nationally by my consultant peers and was awarded the 'Clinician of the Year' by the British Association of Dermatologists.
Away from work, I have always taken a keen interest in sport, and have played in cricket, tennis, basketball and squash teams. Currently I am a member of a local sports and squash club. More recently I have learnt to play golf, although regrettably the pressure of time means that this is restricted to a few rounds in the summer months.
The highlight of my interest in outdoor pursuits and hill walking was when I completed the 'Tour du Mont Blanc' circuit in the Alps. I am also a proficient skier. I also enjoy the more sedentary pleasures of the theatre, concerts and cinema as well as fine food. Most of all, we enjoy family pursuits with our two daughters, who keep us busy!
