About us

Mr Mark Whittaker is a consultant gynaecologist with more than 20 years experience as a consultant in the NHS and private practice. He is a general gynaecologist with his main areas of interest including the management of menstrual disorders, endometriosis, pelvic pain, painful sex and the treatment of prolapse.

He has considerable experience in treating women with heavy and painful periods using both medical and surgical treatments, including Mirena and endometrial ablation procedures. He has performed more than 1500 endometrial ablations and resection of fibroids. He is competent to perform laparascopic hysterectomy and has been involved nationally studying and teaching different types of hysterectomy.

His other major interest is the management of endometriosis and is able to treat this condition using laparoscopic techniques. He was on the working group focused on developing national Endometriosis Centres for the surgical treatment of advanced endometriosis. He is currently elected as Honorary Secretary to the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy board representing gynaecologists nationally who are interested in keyhole surgery.

He is very experienced in dealing with most benign gynaecological conditions and regularly performs surgery for prolapse.

Since qualifying as a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist he has been very involved in teaching and training doctors in how to perform ‘keyhole’ surgery in gynaecology. Wherever possible he uses these less invasive approaches in treating his patients.
