About me
People will come to therapy at different points in their life for different reasons. For some people, difficult emotions, distress or a feeling of being stuck may have developed over a period of time; for others a significant life experience may prompt the need for therapeutic support. Whatever peoples specific circumstances are, recognising the need for support is a positive step forward. I offer a gentle, empathetic approach, creating a safe place in which to explore the areas my clients wish to focus on.
I am a qualified Counselling Psychologist registered with the HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council) and a Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society. I am also an EMDR Europe Accredited Practitioner. I have worked with the NHS over the last 8 years working with adults experiencing a range of difficulties including low mood, anxiety, coping with loss, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, traumatic events, stress, loss of meaning, and long-term health conditions including chronic pain, and fatigue. I have been trained in a number of approaches including Relational, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness, Compassion Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). I work integratively, drawing on a combination of approaches that I feel would be most helpful for the individual client. The relationship between therapist and client is at the core of all my work and I work collaboratively with my clients exploring the best way of working together to help them achieve their goals. I abide by the BPS and HCPC code of ethics and conduct and invest in my continuous professional development attending training and talks on a range of topics relevant to my practice.
