About me
Dr Mark Hudson-Peacock is a Consultant Dermatologist and Clinical Lead for the Canterbury Skin and Laser Clinic. He was a Senior Consultant Dermatologist and clinical lead in the East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust, a post he held from January 1996 until January 2014, when he left to focus his energy to bring a new medical treatment to the NHS for internal haemorrhoids called eXroid Electrotherapy, which is now available across the country and internationally. He is a general dermatologist with a specialist interest in skin surgery and laser surgery, plus has an interest in proctology (including pruritus ani, anal tags, fissures and both internal and external haemorrhoids).
Dr Mark graduated from the University of Wales College of Medicine (UWCM) in 1987, having gained a degree in biochemistry in 1984. He was awarded the first Geoffrey Hodgson dermatology prize to be awarded by the UWCM, and this inspired him to follow dermatology as his career choice. He gained his Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in March 1990, and was awarded his fellowship from the same college (FRCP) in 2000. He gained further training in dermatological and laser surgery in Europe and North America, specific training in the art of sclerotherapy in Toronto and trained in the treatment of internal haemorrhoids using Direct Current Electrotherapy (eXroid) in Tampa, Florida.
He regularly lectures on a variety of dermatological subjects and has presented work both nationally and internationally.
Dr Mark established his private dermatological and laser practice at The Chaucer Hospital in Canterbury in 1996 and later at the Spencer Wing based in the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother Hospital in Margate. With the practice continuing to grow, as demand for skin and cosmetic treatments increased, he acquired a newly refurbished building in Castle Street in Canterbury, which continues to offer a comfortable environment in which to provide modern and comprehensive skin care, unique to this part of Kent.
He is Founder/CEO of Mantara Health Ltd, a company that has produced the first UKCA/CE marked pharmacogenomic (PGx) device for the UK, fully registered with the MHRA. The company has two products, firstly the PGx panel saliva test that covers 78 of the commonest medications in the UK and based on the Prepare study published in the Lancet in 2023. The second is a CYP2C19 cheek swab test that determines if a patient is suited to clopidogrel, usually prescribed to prevent clotting after a cardiac stent or after a TIA or stroke, to reduce the risk of another one happening. Clopidogrel does not work as intended in 1 out of every 3 patients taking it! Both products are available via the website and via professional clinics we are partnered with.
